World Record holder – Jason Liversidge

Following his success in setting a new UK record, Jason set a new world record of 67mph, breaking the previous  speed record for an electric all-terrain mobility vehicle by  5mph. An absolutely superb performance.

Jason, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2013 when he was 37, previously said he wanted “to leave a legacy for his little girls” and raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Supporting International Boarders Award – nomination for Mrs Thomas

Mrs Janet Thomas received the news today that she has been chosen as one of the finalists in the Supporting International Boarders Award category by the Boarding Schools’ Association.

The nomination highlights many of the small things Mrs Thomas does to make boarding a real home from home. She is an incredible person, loves children and everyone is very proud to work with her.

The OSA would love to hear from former students and parents who have witnessed and benefitted from Mrs Thomas’s very special love, care, kindness and compassion. This will have no influence on the final outcome of her nomination but we would love to just share your comments and appreciation with her regardless.

Good luck Mrs T. The winner will be announced on 23 September

OS Jason Liversidge sets UK wheelchair speed record

Jason Liversidge (1984-1992) was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2013 when he was 37. He has undertaken a number of challenges which have been so impressive – in 2017 he became the first person to reach the summit of Mount Snowdon in an electric wheelchair  (see OSA news item August 2nd 2017).

His latest challenge was to reach a world wheelchair record speed of 62mph. In a practice session he set a new UK time trial record of 59.064mph, whilst he was getting to grips with the wheelchair.

This is a superb achievement and we wish him well on his attempt at the world record.
