OSA Reunion – The Hempsall Years

This year the theme for our reunion was the Hempsall Years – 1985-1995.  Whilst not as full-on as last year, we had a lovely evening at the College reminiscing with old friends, or should I say, ‘long standing friends’, some friendships spanning over 40 years!  The College’s catering team ably assisted by the Sixth Formers throughout the evening, produced an outstanding meal which the evening’s proceedings evolved around.  Pre-dinner drinks and chat were enjoyed and then following a short welcome introduction from Zoe Harrison, who highlighted various changes from the College during the 1988 era compared to the current College along with the modern-day purpose and recent accomplishments of the OSA, before being addressed by Dr David Hempsall.  He recounted the days and the College which he had been Headmaster of and the changes in the Independent sector.  He also highlighted the change in the manner and behaviour of its students over its 122 years, thankfully always for the better, and how hopefully this will continue to change positively in order for the school to survive and remain.  With the vast investment plans in sport and boarding that the College has for the coming 2 years this surely will be the case.

It was lovely to see as many former staff as pupils all together enjoying the evening and the halcyon days gone by, all remembered fondly with our rose tinted glasses firmly on!

Special thanks to everyone for attending especially Dr Hempsall and to the Holroyd Howe catering team at Scarborough College.  Next March we will be looking forward to welcoming back those pupils and former and current staff from the Kirkup, Lee and Nixon era.  Another night not to be missed.

Date for your diary – November Reunion weekend 17 and 18 November 2018.
